We know how much we love to participate in all sorts of sporting events, and we also love to receive the t-shirts, medals and all sorts of freebies that come with participating.
But, there is a negative side to all of this. That is the impact they have on the environment. From the fuel consumed to travel to the event, to the participation t-shirt and medal you get after crossing the finish line of your favourite race.
These all have a negative impact on our planet.
So, how can you help?
Here at Active UK Leisure, we are supporting a company called Trees Not Tees to offer everyone the ability to support the environment, by funding to either have a tree planted and maintained*, or even better, funding planting a tree and then ‘owning’ that carbon going forward, to account for your own carbon footprint.
Either way, it is an easy way for you to help support the planet, by counteracting the impact we create participating in sporting events
The process of making a single t-shirt alone, uses the equivalent of 2.5 years of drinking water for one person, and produces over 2kg of CO2 emissions.
Equally, the environmental benefit of planting a tree is huge. It helps us fight against climate change by taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, and it provides a home for a diverse range of species, and it gives us clean air to breathe.
